The basics of everyday life are still out of reach for too many people with disabilities in the world: getting a job, using transportation, getting an education, and living independently. The problem is made more complex by the fact that, for the most part, people with disabilities are also usually poor, vulnerable and lack community support and infrastructure. The little that we could do, would go a long way in helping them -One Billion of them.
Every year, earthquakes, famines, droughts, cyclones and hurricanes cause havoc and destruction to many. Thanks to many relief and social organizations, people effected by such as disasters are getting rehabilitated and finding ways to lead their lives again. However, the one billion or so are not on our radar. They don’t form or fit calamities such as hurricanes or famines—but their issues are not going away. No much has changed for those with disabilities around the world, many of them make up the majority of those found under poverty, at times their earning or wages are considerable less then those without disabilities. Can the same be done for those with disabilities around the world? Can we work towards providing them better options to education, equipment and employment? They need our attention, even though their suffering, despair and disconnect cant be compared to that of the agony and discomfort natural calamities.
